You can mount the 90 amp into the diesel Vanagon and I have done so several times. It fits the mounting bracket fine but the belt tensioning arm of the DV alternator is too short. A different arm must be made. The belt needs to be slightly longer as well. The DV came with a 2 belt system and with the 90 amp I simply use 2 identical belts of the size for the water pump, 643mm long. The wiring MUST be upgraded from the alternator to the battery with a larger wire for the extra current.

The Bosch 65 amp pulley can be moved to the 90 amp Bosch alternator but the Motorola is a unique beast and nothing from it fits on Bosch. The Bosch pulley setup you would need is common as dirt since it was used on most 80s VW cars. The complete 90 amp alternator from most of these is the same as what you want anyway.

If you have now or plan to add a diesel tachometer you will need an alternator with a "W" lead on the back. Any alternator can accommodate this but you should be sure it is already there if that is what you want to end up with.

Both the Bosch and Motorola 65 amp are seen on DVs but the Motorola can be a pain in the long run. If you need to replace it some stores will reject it as a core trade-in for the more common Bosch.

It's not quite ready yet, but I believe it has the Motorola alternator, and I want a 90 amp alt. to go in there.
