My Syncro does well when warm. In the cold I get worst. I think this is because there is no pre-heating of the intake air like most cars have. I've seen designs in the VW manual to heat the intake air but , never seen it on a vanagon.

My daily driver Syncro would be doing well to get 14-15 right now, probably does not help right now that it is below `0F outside. Last check I think it was getting 10-11, if I recall it gets 14-15 during the summer. That is strictly in town driving as we take the Westy for road trips. > >Mark in AK > >----- Original Message ----- >From: Anthony Egeln <regnsuzanne@YAHOO.COM> >Date: Friday, February 1, 2008 10:11 am >Subject: Re: Government MPG ratings site - updated link >To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > > > >>Whoooaaa! >> >>They say the syncro gets 14/15, and historically (4 years) I have >>had 18/19. >> >>That is until now...for some unknown reason I've dropped to 16/17. >>Maybe my van read the new ratings! >> >>YMMV, Anthony >> >>'89 Syncro GL (Hidalgo) >> >>"Jack R." <jack007@COMCAST.NET> wrote: I received a number of e- >>mails about the link, so I re-posting. >>http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calculatorSelectYear.jsp >> >>It is a little shorter, hopefully it will work, if it doesn't, go >>to the >>main site at www.fueleconomy.gov and select "New 1985-2008 MPG >>estimates"Then choose the year of your 1985 or newer Vanagon... >>drill down to the >>compare side by side calculator. >> >>Sorry the earlier link didn't work. >> >>Jack R. >> >> >>-----Original Message----- >>From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On >>Behalf Of >>Jack R. >>Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2008 7:32 PM >>To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM >>Subject: Government MPG ratings site >> >>The government revised their MPG ratings, and they actually have a >>sitewhich provides the MPG for just about every vehicle sold in >>the US since >>1985. >> >> >> >>They do a side by side compare of the new MPG with the old MPG >>ratings.
