Hi,
Your best bet is to find someone to drive it for you.
There are even companies that find drivers for you for a fee.
Though obviously a fellow vanagon lover would be best.
You can also have it shipped via one of those trucks that haul cars around
the country.
I recently had a camper vanagon shipped from Virginia to Oregon.
Usually you end up with a broker, which isn't the best system , they give
you a quote, and they post it for driers to pick up.
If o can deal directly a hauling individual or company, that would probably
be better than a broker kind of deal.
I would expect a haul like that to cost ................mmmm...........800
if you are lucky.
600 would be an extreme bargain, I can imagine 1200.
For reference.............last April I paid 1,350 for the haul, Virginia to
Oregon, and 150 for the broker fee for 1,500 total.
And that was a high top Adventurewagen, which due to it's height, no one
wanted to take, at they can't stack a car above it and stay below legal
height. I wasn't in a hurry, but it took 3 months to get someone to do that
haul. I started at 1,100 and raised my bid twice until someone took it at
1,350. It arrived just fine.
But if you could get that done for 800 I think that would be about right if
you are lucky.
You also need to be flexible on the time some two, like allow a two week
window say for when someone can do it.
That's two ideas ! .........
Getting it hauled as opposed to someone driving it, as long as the hauler is
careful with it, there's less wear and use on your westy, and possibly less
exposure to it getting in an accident or whatever.
But go online, find a company or two, email or call a few for a bid, and so
forth.
I think I used EZ shipping or something ...........there are hundreds of
them, I think most of them are the 'usual semi-crooks' lol, but maybe you
can find a really reputable one with decent prices.

Subject: How to get my Van from Minnesota to California this July?
We're planning a roadtrip for the summer and I'm looking for some help from
the 'List'.
We have a family (my wife's) reunion in Tower, Minnesota over July 4th.
We live in the San Francisco / Bay Area California.
I would like to make this into a roadtrip (with our '87 Westy), but other
than just
driving directly there and back (~5000 miles) I can't see how to make this
work
with the limited time off work I will have (& the family is not enthusiastic
about a
non-stop drive, they would reasonably rather stop & see a few places on the
way...).
A one-way trip (CA to MN) would work, so I'm trying to figure out how to get
my Westy
back from Minnesota at the end of the trip.
That means a ~2200 mile trip (via the most direct route) from somewhere such
as
Minneapolis to San Francisco, leaving on or around July 6th.
Any suggestions from list members? (vehicle delivery services or even
someone
interested in driving it for us).
Thanks,
Mike
'87 Westy
(will be getting muengine & other work done to be sure that it is in top
condition for such a trip)
