I have to replace the battery in my LT, so yeah not really a Vanagon questions, but a Vanagon's big brother question. The battery that is in there is a BIG monster - same size as the VW Touareg / Porsche Cheyanne (except they have TWO of them). I was thinking of going with an Ultima, but now for the red top they are $220 at WalMart. Ultima isn't the ultimate battery, but what is? What I am planning on doing is running two batteries. One starting battery and one aux battery that I will attach two winches and an HF radio system to. I plan on relocating the batteries to outside the truck just behind the cab and installing manual battery disconnects to both of them So, size isn't a problem, but I want the most cranking power I can get and the most reserve power I can get as well so I can run winches and not worry about killing the starting battery. Is this really just a search for the biggest lead - acid battery I can find and going from there or is there something that is better and hopefully cheaper than an Ultima? Thanks in advance!
