It is a somewhat complicated affinity but mostly has to do with fuel economy and alternative fuels.

Diesels in Vanagons can get 30-50% better fuel economy than the gasoline models. Plus there is the option to use bio-diesel or veggie oil or used fryer oil. Most diesel owning people don't use these but the fact that they could appeals to them and also makes the diesels more desirable to others.

The original 82/83 diesel Vanagons commonly got close to 30 mpg but these are sluggish beasts to say the least

The VW TDI motors can do even better in fuel economy than the older slugs and have amazing power bands in Vanagons. Each of the TDI Vanagons I have driven shocked me, pleasantly. I plan to have one of my own running soon.

Some folks would buy a vehicle because it had a V6 TDI? Why? Is it it a philosophy or facts? When it hits -15 below zero I've seen a few of those Dodge MB sprinters sitting in the driveways with their hoods up not starting. Diesel is 35 cents more a gallon than gas. What am I missing? Maybe if I have to ask I'll never understand... > > Chris C > 90 MV > Wisconsin > > ------------------------------------------------------------ > "Chris S." <mrpolak@YAHOO.COM> wrote: > >> There's supposed to be a V6 TDI option as well > THAT would change the equation for some folks.... > > -- > 1991 Vanagon GL >
