I looked into this starter a year or two ago and spoke to the actual manufacturer. You can find the details in the archives, but in a nutshell, the owner of the company himself told me that they were generally rebuilt Nippon-Denso units, NOT brand new as GW claimed. Since torque is not usually a problem on Vanagons even with the Bosch starters, and these were reman's just like the Bosch, I couldn't justify the higher price and opted not to carry them.
