What year is your Vanagon and how many clicks does it take at the parking brake handle to set the brakes?

The reason I asked what year is the ratchets on early Vanagons ('80~mid '85) are different and the clicks are further apart ... therefore fewer available. Maybe a better question would be ... does your parking brake handle have plastic surrounding the part where your hand grips it? If so, that would be the newer type.
