I've got an '82 Vanagon with a dash that's trashed and am considering transfering another dash from another Van to it.

Is this is a good idea? Is it a DIY or must I hire it out? If I do it, should I expect it to be apples to apples or will it involve lots of surprises if I don't buy another dash from an '82 Vanagon.
