Of course it is if you have a place to keep them, Get them at good prices, And have a way to transport ones that don't run......... One dead vanagon has about 300 useful parts on it to me.

Pick'n pulls are fine..........'BUT'........ If they weren't in a hurry to crush the things, that sure would help. But so far my experience of pick n pull junk yards.............while there are fantastic deals, like parts at literally 1/10th of what they're worth really, or 1/5th at least........... They have a rape mentality and keep the vans around about two weeks max it seems. So just based on *that* alone.......since the junkyards and pick n pulls don't' really preserve or protect or save them........... Then that makes a very big case for saving them ourselves. I'm so nutty about preserving things that I treat the rust spots on my dead never will run again parts vanagons. Just cause I hate seeing the vans not get real love and care. Scott www.turbovans.com

Vanagons seem to be rare at the parts yards around Portland, OR, so I'm wondering if I could save time, money and have less issues with color matching and all the related hassles of ordering parts from vendors by buying cheap used Vanagons. If you've experience with both modes of parts sourcing:

Is it a viable option to buy vans and use them for parts instead of touring the parts yards every month in your area?

Neil
