I thought that Bluetec was a Mercedez developed technology and that VW
was going to use a different version of catalytic converter for their
diesels? They had a nice article on this in a past issue of Popular
Mechanics. The part that I think is weird is the substance that they
are using as the catalyst in the Bluetec cat. They called it "urea" in
the article and they didn't elaborate. Isn't this pee pee (I use the
polite term here for the small children in the audience)? So you have a
container somewhere in a Benz that contains whizz, piss, urine, etc.
which is slowly injecting this into your catalytic converter to help
break down the diesel emissions. I wonder how this is going to go over
with the MB crowd? At least it should be easy to refill the container
(just go on a long trip and drink a lot of coffee). Yeah right! Knowing
the German mindset, only pure German Wee-wee (TM) will do :-)
Am I the only one that sees this system as a gold mine for jokes in the
future?
