The seat swivels are welded in, and you remove them by grinding out the
welds.
And since they are welded right on top of regular seat rails, the seat still
fits in the van, just without a swivel.
Seats that came on swivels, btw, are thinner than those that didn't.

Subject: Questions about putting westy cabinets into non-westy syncro
I just got an 86' syncro and a totaled 86' westy. I would like to put the
westy cabinets and curtian rails into the syncro. I have searched the
archives but still have a few questions.
I will try to be as clear as possible.
NOTE: I am not going to transfer the pop-top to this van, it will be
transfered to another van.
(I am going to go the easy route and only cut the hole were the sun roof
would be. My goal is to have standing and storage room, not to make another
bed.)
1. I assume the rear clothes closet will fit without any problems since the
roof is higher in a non-westy due to its curvature. Is this a correct
assumption?
2. For mounting the cabinets I plan to just use the original sheet metal
screws but I am concerned about the front bracket of the rear clothes
closet, since the syncro gas tank is underneath where the bracket is
secured. Is there enough clearence to just use the origninal sheet metal
screws?
3. Also the rear seat brackets are screwed into welded on metal tabs that I
do not want to transfer over. I would like to just use sheet metal screws
but again I am concerned about the clearence of the syncro gas tank. (I am
talking about the ones behind the seat, the ones inside the seat should not
interfer with the gas tank)
4. What about the curtian rails? How can I mount them without the hole for
the poptop?
5. Can I transfer the westy floor to the syncro?
6. How do I remove the swivel seats? Are they welded on?
Thanks,
David Hines
