Did you just replace yours'? In prepping my Jetta 2.0 engine for my Westy, I figured I'd replace some stuff like seals and belts. I also figured I'd pull the coolant pump. "Better now than later" I thought. Got some advice on brand names for replacement and was advised to get one with a metal impeller as the stock plastic one self destructs. I pulled it and sure enough, the plastic was deteriorating! Not sure why, but maybe something to do with a chemical reaction? Neil.
