A 2wd speedo is driven off of the left front wheel and says '801' on the bottom, which refers to the revolutions per mile, IIRC. The 4wd speedo is driven off of the differential and says '1600', which means that it turn's about twice the speed to indicate the same amount of movement. I tested a syncro speedo head in my regular vanagon, and it indicated half the miles and speed at any given time. (driving at 60 mph actual speed read as 30 mph on the guage).

HTH,

Mike B.
