There were stock 1981 Diesel Vanagons, moreso in the Pickup, DOKA and Panel
Commercial model range mostly sold in Europe.  Perhaps there were Passenger
model Vanagons of that year vintage as well.  It wasn't until the 1982 model
year (starting in Aug 1981) that the Diesel was intro'd into North America.
