I have had mine overfilled three times. The first two times it was overfilled by perhaps 3/16 or 1/4 inch on the dipstick. Both times the transmission slipped terribly as I was leaving the mechanics--two different ones. Both times they insisted that so small an overfill wouldn't cause the tranny to slip, but both times when they removed the excess ATF--at my insistence--the tranny no longer slipped.

The last time yet another mechanic overfilled it by an inch or more on the dipstick. I removed over a pint of fluid to get it back within the marks but, surprisingly, there was no slippage this time.

Since I now know how little attention they pay to the admonition DO NOT OVERFILL in both Bentley and the VW manual I always check it myself after having it serviced.
