Hi Peter, I recently put a Zetec in my '85 Westfalia. I chose to go with the do it yourself version of the Bostig Conversion known as the "Zetec Core". The Zetec Core kit supplies all of the necessary parts for the engine conversion, while leaving it to the end user to source the engine and acessories (alternator, power steering pump and exhaust manifold) that are necessary for the swap from local auto recyclers. I beleive the current cost for the Zetec Core kit is $4200.00. A low mileage (<10,000 miles) Zetec can be found just about anywhere for $600.00 or less, making it quite possible to have a complete Zetec transplant for $5,000.00. I got my '03 Zetec from a local yard for $400.00 and picked it up myself to avoid shipping costs. If you want to check out availability near you try http://www.car-part.com and search for a 2000 Ford Focus engine (WS4E intake). I am on my way out the door right now, but I will post some more about my experience with the Zetec conversion tomorrow. Here is a link to a couple shots of the Zetec in my '85 if you would like to see how it looks in the Vanagon engine bay: http://www.geocities.com/vwcamper72/Zetec1.html None of the other engine conversions I have seen are as simple or straightforward to install. If I wasn't so lazy (and excited about the new motor) I might have even cleaned up the engine bay before I bolted the Zetec in... More later.
