How simple cars once were ! You'd think it might have occurred to them to make it so that when the lever was flipped a large bright yellow flag showed or something, Or even a warning light on the dash, though that would be too complex for that era vw bug. Maybe a warning beeper. But even then some people would just drive wondering what funny sound was !
