Hi Jim. Hopefully what I did on my '81 will apply --- ;^) There wasn't a lot of play between my cig lighter socket and dash, but I wrapped a scrap piece of #14 bare copper wire around the plug between dash and plug. I did this with the dash off. Bear in mind that I don't use the cig socket a lot, but it took up the play nicely and is holding fine. I wonder if they make circlips that big? Neil.
