Be aware that twice recently (I have more than one Vanagon) I had to file the flanges of brand new exhaust pipes to get a flat sealable surface. That's something you might want to check for ... and do yourself before you let your mechanic put them on. Mine were "Proud" where the welds were holding the flanges to the pipes.

Something else I tried last spring for the first time ... which is working just fine ... is orange high temp silicone sealer at all exhaust joints. That is, of course, after I made certain that the flanges were flat and mated perfectly.
