Syncro need to have their tires within 5% (including wear) of each other's diameter so as not to screw up the VC (viscous coupling between from and rear diffs). BTW, it's spelled without the "H". Anyway, the theory is to rotate all tires including the spare to get the maximum life out of the set of tires. You could buy 4 and get a comparably sized spare wheel. You would would have an odd looking wheel on your van at some point of the tire rotation. If you don't care or are willing to dismount a tire solely for rotation purposes, you should be OK with just 4. It is just much easier and more aesthetically pleasing to have a matched set of 5 wheels.
