Volks,
Well, I've been off the list for 3 years and my Westy has been
sitting in storage for the last 18 months. Its time to sell.
Basically, my wife has multiple sclerosis and traveling in our Westy
has gotten harder. We enjoyed it immensely during the years our
daughter was younger. She, too, is nearly ready for college
so..........life moves on.
Its a 1989 Vanagon GL Westy complete, with approx. 85K original
miles. (sorry to list the approx. but the door to the garage is
frozen shut with about 3 inches of ice.......supposed to be in the
40's next week - huzzah!) 5 speed, AC, full camper
I did a ton of work to it: new Michelin tires (probably have 15K on
them with tons of tread left), replaced leaky heads, replaced all gas
lines, rebuilt transmission, new AC condenser and evaporator and
converted to new 134A, brand new new starter battery, all synthetic
lubricants i.e. Mobil 1 and tranny oil, etc., etc. It runs like a top.
The camper is complete: all curtains, tables, cushions, etc. in
excellent condition. The stove works great. Fridge has worked on
electric and propane but the last time I tried, it bucked on
propane. Might need a new regulator? The poptop has a minor rip in
the mosquito netting but is otherwise in good condition.
The vehicle spent the first 10 years of its life in Corpus Christi,
TX. The paint is a little oxidized due to the sunlight. Its been in
Iowa since 1999 but garaged every winter. The right front corner was
crunched and repaired by the previous owner but needs to be redone.
There's a little seam rust behind the sliding door. Otherwise the
body is in excellent condition and would be super sharp with a new
paint job.
Its ready to go and unfortunately we need to part company. $13,000
or best offer to a new home. I'm posting it on thesamba.com next
month but wanted to give old friends on the list the first shot at it.
contact me @ jlfritz@mac.com I can supply pics as soon as I can pry
open the garage door! :-P
