Yes, and...you're overlooking the 'knowledge factor' about having done your
own harness and thus being more able to deal with your sobie-vanagon if
there's a problem someday - you'll understand the system better, plus you
know the wiring harness will be done very carefully that way, by doing it
yourself.

EXACTLY. That's why I agreed with Ken that putting in a Subie will only be a
money saver IF you are very mechanically inclined. I work on computers all
day and have 5 around me in my basement as I'm typing. I built all of them
and half of them have their guts hanging out. One craps out, just fix the
problem, reformat, reload the OS and all applications. Piece if cake since I
do it all the time. I can fix almost ANY computer problem (mostly software)
since that is what I do for a living. When friends and family call me and
want a computer I tell them to call Dell and leave me alone because It's
that "support" thingy that they need, not a cheap computer. For me, if I
were to do a Subie conversion I would pay Hans for his wiring harness and
anything else needed to make it an easy install and save me time. I'd rather
bill someone for some computer problem and pay Hans for a wiring harness
then splice the wires myself.
I'm also extremely impatient. I can't imagine having the guts of my van on
the garage floor for 6 months... ;-)
