Donna,

The good news is that you should be able to find the problem relatively easily with an engine scan tool. If you go to Auto Zone they will check your codes for free and print you out a listing of them. That should help you find the problem. It could be any number of things but unless it is purely mechanical in nature it should generate a code and point you in the right direction that way.
