Right, that's to punish your for not monitoring miles covered,

So you'll learn to not push the limits on fuel supply.

That's why the button pops out of the parking brake handle on old bugs - from not keeping the brake shoes, ( which I believe, btw, is called for every 3K miles in maintenance schedules, or something like that ) ..keeping the brake shoes adjusted, one per shoe, 8 total ...it's to punish you for neglecting brake shoe adjustments,

and if you want the parking brake to work again you're forced to deal with it properly.

Very clever those german engineers.

Hey Ben, I didn't know this is the way it actually worked, though I never

really gave it any thought. But this makes me think, that the reason for

this design was so that you only sucked low, where you were most likely to

pick up some caca, when you absolutely had to. Normal operation would have

it picking up the gas at a safer and higher level.......so I'm thinking

that this was pretty sound thinking, but it would have been much better if

they had explained it.

Miguel

> it's not exactly a reserve tank. The tap actually actually has an upper

drain for most of the fuel. When it ges to a certain level, you have to

turn

down the lever so that the secondary hole lower on the valve lets the rest

of the fuel flow.
