100% old gas will run VERY poorly. BTDT. Break up the water deposits with some 'Dry-Gas'. I read that using stale gas mixed 50/50 with fresh gas will be about as good as you can get. I tried this in one of my cars, and it worked like a charm! It then ran like all fresh gas would; no problems. IMHO, adding a small container of a stabilizer probably won't make a big difference.

Hi,

Never say which year vanagon or engine type of course.

But you can add fuel stabilizer to the tank now, it will help some.

( of course fuel won't be circulating through the fuel hoses or injectors, but it would if you ran it. )

letting any car sit is one of the very worst things you can do for it.

'maybe' sitting in a dry environment indoors, letting it 'sleep' can help it deteriorate the least while sitting long term,

but overall, cars are built to be used, and ALL systems deteriorate just sitting.

My van has been sitting for almost a year with a full tank of gas. I did NOT put any gas stabilizer in the tank.

In a few months, I'll be firing it up for a trip.

Is there any damage to the engine from running the tank of "old gas" through the engine?

Might it just run roughly for the first tank of gas??

Thanks. Malcolm
