Hi all.

Some quick pics of my spare air cooled tranny held up against the KEP "Rabbit" plate:

You can see the gap. Due to, of course, the input shaft bottoming out. Gap isn't as much as I thought. About 4mm.

But......

Measuring from step where pilot bearing bottoms out, to end (face) of crank: ~ 18.5 mm

From end of hole in Jetta crank at its' deepest (it's concave) to end (face) of crank: ~ 32 mm

Thats a difference of (gets out calculator) 13.5 mm

13.5 mm is (consults the web) .5315"

It is suggested to grind off 7/16". Just under 1/2". So it seems this is so the input shaft is just a little "longer" than the seated pilot bearing.

This is starting to make sense now, but please correct me if I'm on the wrong track!
