It's notorious for rust. It dries harder than the steel around it. You really need a grinder to smooth it down! The big disadvantage to using it as a seam sealer is that it expands as it dries so unless you're careful it will bulge out a lot and as mentioned it's HARD. If I wanted to close the seams I'd use it and grind it down flat. It takes paint really well.
