Hi Rob,

If you're interested in an ugly utilitarian-type roof rack, take a look at
mine:

Advantages: Made from scrap steel, holds at least the 300 lb. maximum per
the owner's manual, adjustable for different length loads. I've carried a
good deal of 20' lumber on this.

What I would do differently: Coat the end of the legs with polyurethane or
some such to prevent it from wearing holes in the paint, change the
rain-gutter clamp design.

Also not clear in the photo: I stuffed a length of pipe insulation into the
forward cross-bar interior (it's the Z-track style material so I can hook
things to it easily), on account of the really LOUD singing in the wind the
first time out!
