If they look the same, me thinks that you are not considering that they could have different hardness, left to right. The factory might do that - they could improve vibration characteristics with a little trickery like that.

Fwiw, I have use Quantum TD rubber engine mounts ( might be what your fox ones are like ) on the left side of a TD vanagon just fine.

They look like little trapezoidally shaped small 'bricks' with a stud on top I think. If one feels stiffer in any way, ...well, you don't' have a turbo, and your engine is at 15 degrees...if one felt stiffer I'd put in on the lower side. I think you're probably fine. Pics of course are always fun and nice. Then maybe your fox mounts are nothing like what I'm thinking of. If I'm anywhere near a VW Fox car, something is seriously wrong !! lol.
