I know, horrible isn't it. Believe me, I take FULL RESPONSIBILITY for everything I create. Have no plans to ever sue anyone. Or get sued. I'm like this - I rent, and I take care of the building completely for free for the owner, and I improve it, and I clean up the whole are 200 feet in every direction, including areas not my own, and I've never missed a day of rent in my life. And I've been working on electrical things including house stuff forever. Just got this handy little device you plug into a socket, and it tells you if the neutral is open, or hot and the other side are reversed etc. I think I'm on top of it electrically speaking, and thanks for the concern. If I hear any sizzling or smell any burnt smells, I'll post right away !

I can be a bit cavalier too, though obviously, in house wiring there is no room for fudging. What do you think of a pubic or shared bathroom where people leave the ceiling fan on for days and days at a time ? That really bothers me and I regard it as a fire hazard and one of these days I'll get a timer on it. As it is I turn it off every time I find it left on. I am very, very safety conscious........more than you could imagine. My 'driving safety awareness' manual would be 20 pages at least. Don't get me started - lol ! Scott

The circuit breaker advice is probably good, but there is a pretty decent factor of safety built into the wire gauge.

I seriously doubt a fire will result from bumping the breaker up by 10 amps.

That being said, I certainly don't recommend doing this if for no other reason than repercussion from the litigious society which we live.

Oh please. Don't tell me I don't know what I'm doing. I'm right her by the wires 24/7 anyway. But thank you for your concern. And it's not in some old wooden house either. Sometimes I put things in like that just to see if anyone is paying attention......maybe I do that.

Scott

This is now NVC, but I gotta say.

You replaced a 20A household breaker with a 30A? Well, if you suddenly smell wood smoke while you're welding, just know that if the blaze was started by that circuit overheating, your home's fire insurance is worthless.

If you already know this, then forge ahead! Have at it! But forewarned is forearmed.
