Hi Jonce,

When I was finishing up the Zetec installation in my '85 Westy I just swapped in the tachometer from a late Vanagon (thanks Brady) into my '85 instrument cluster. It took about 20 minutes and some delicate work, but it really wasn't difficult at all. Basically you just remove all of the little screws and the white connector plug that hold the electric foil to the back of the tachometer and swap the tach guages. Replace all the little screws, reinstall the plug and you're done. Doing the tachometer only method like this allows you to work around the dynamic oil pressure buzzer system that is present on 86-91 vans.

Good luck! Jay Brown '85 Zetec Westfalia '72 Riviera http://www.geocities.com/vwcamper72

Ive got a 84 and a 85 Vanagon. The 84 has a Clock and I found the early 84 Tach (Black Face) that in theory will just plug in and go. The 85 that was built in Late 84 is has the multi color tach that looks like the up to 91 vanagon version. My Questions is: 1) Is there a part number for the Tach with the multicolor face. 2) with that part number are there more then 1 version of the multi color face tach? 3) does any one know how Many Versions or revisions of the tach there might be? Reason for asking. Im 95% done with my bostig conversion and the Tach is suppose to be different in the 85 from the 86-91. BUT there is no known part number that will or will not work. So Im doing a bit of homework to see if my tach that could be from a 85-91 vanagon since when I purchased my vanagon it has 4 spare dash pods with it. I think Ive got 2 still and the 1 still in the 85. I will check them tonight for part numbers just in case. Thanks for any and all help in advance. C-ya Jonce
