It'll be just fine, especially if it's an OE type and not some small hokey aftermarket el cheapo cat.

I use various cats here and there making Subaru exhaust systems and so forth.

I wouldn't expect the slightest problem.

And.....BTW - I believe that a hollowed out cat does not flow as properly as a cat with good catalyst material in it. If you know what principle an expansion chamber on a two-stroke engine works by, you might wonder about the dynamics of pressure waves in a hollowed out cat, and how it might not be right. The entire system, from air intake onward, to the tail pipe, was engineered to have a cat in there.

I always run a good cat.

Btw, the chances of back yard 'creativity' - taking short cuts, leaving things off, and thus having less than what you optimally hoped for - are pretty good. . If you don't REALLY know what you are doing - stay very close to stock and that's how you get the best results.

Hi all.

Going to harvest a few things from an '85 Vanagon. I assume it has a 1.9.

If the cat looks ok, could i use it on a Jetta 2.0 engine?

I imagine that since the displacement is larger, then no. But if yes,

then I can save a few bucks.....

....... especially since I'd be installing a cat voluntarily.

(AFAIK, up here an '81 air cooled doesn't require it. Pretty sure no

one would notice if I didn't have it. Just trying to run cleaner)

Thanks much for any input.

Neil.
