I hear you man.
Same thing - I know a guy with an air-cooled vanagon - probably not too bad
actually, mechanically speaking, not even asking enough for it I don't
think, but when I saw it, a 'for sale pretty good runner' it was being used
for junk storage. Very bad presentation!
( the best way to present something for sale is - all cleaned out, just the
owner's manual, jack, and lug wrench, and the title handy - like you
actually intend to sell it right there on the spot. - that works really
well. )
And going the other way, once I was selling a 84 Wolfsburg Westy- that I had
advertised as pretty nice - I had a rug pulled up for a bit more cleaning
when this woman showed up to see about buying it, she took not even 10
seconds to decide is was a filthy piece of junk just because I was cleaning
on it a bit more !
Endless stories like this of course. All good 'war stories' about vanagons.
Scott

I just went to look at a van that the guy wanted $2000 for, but it needed
to be towed, was rusty, full of mice, used to store junk, wouldn't start,
had 2 flats, 180K miles, broken sliding window with glass still scattered
inside, couldn't find the title, head leaks, parts missing, etc.
He said the parts on it were worth more than he was asking. I offered him
$500. He didn't like that. Good luck, pal.......
