These same (style) mounts were used on the bay window bus from 68 to 71 with a 1600 bug-type engine. On that engine's crossbar, they were oriented in-line with the crankshaft. I haven't seen the pic of the Fox mount orientation, but if they are 90 degrees from the crank, then I would guess that they're okay in either orientation. But, to last longest and best absorb torsional engine forces, they ought to work best as I was originally saying.
