do a search for urethane coated ripstop nylon. You'll find a load of entries for good $$. There's other waterproofing options as well. Just remember to STUFF the fabric instead of folding it when stowing. It will crack and leak on the folds eventually.

If you design it, pls think about adding the pattern to the Vanagon Wiki as this is the same dream project that Kris and I've talked about.
