IIRC, part of doing a rebuild involves cleaning out the various oil and coolant passage ways and other ?

But this is going from a faint memory, and I'm referring to a complete rebuild which you're not doing.

Regardless.....

Since it's possible you've loosened other material, I'd spend the time and do your best to make sure you've cleaned out the loose material. I'm not familiar with a WBX 1.9, but would compressed air help in this matter? Blow passages clear? Maybe the old bicycle pump with a soccer ball needle trick would suffice. (if no compressor available)

I'll bet it was case half sealant that you are seeing, but then who knows?
