Hi Craig,

Thing is, some vanagons ARE worth as much as restored splitties. Have a look at what GoWesty is selling, or ask Benny Boy how much he wants for his Tornado Red westy. You can find a lot of splitwindow buses in that price range, and probably pick up a decent baywindow with the change left over. People see those prices and then they think that their rusted hulk is a gold mine.

When I see a stuation like that I suggest the seller figure out what a comparable vehicle would cost in good running condition and then figure out what the cost would be to get the unit they are selling into that condition. Subtract the latter number from the former, and you have ta fair and reasonable price. If it turns out to be a negative number, then it's a parts car, and you price it out according to the value of the parts minus the value of the labour to harvest them.

But some people will refuse to play ball. They are either unmotivated sellers or they have an unrealistic picture of the value of their product in the current marketplace.

Or else they are sharks looking for dumber prey to come along and take the bait. It's a cheap way to pass the time, and every so often they get lucky.

Happy Trails,
