Subject: Battery and alternator - generic auto electric

Good idea, Ken. I did test at the alternator and at the battery. After replacing the bad ring terminal, I got the alt and the bat to read the same voltage. I am assuming that the fact that I can't get more the 14v at the alt means it's just not generating more than that?

To really test it I would energize all the electrical consumers, lights, fans, A/C, 1400W sud-woofers etc.. and THEN measure the voltage at the alternator. I like to use it's case as ground. Should be > 13.6 volts. Next move over to the battery posts. On our 85 I measured two volts loss! With some extra wiring I got that figure under one half a volt.
