Hey,
 I googled Hawk brakes and found that Tire Rack has the HP-Plus compound and
also one called HPS for the street/  Also available are slotted brake rotors
for the Vanagon..( many racers use the slotted rotors to improve brake
cooling and also wet performance.)
    I am going to try some HP-plus pads on my '84...While I don't drive my
"Adobe Brick"  like a racer, I do sometimes encounter unexpected
obstructions in my path, and the standard braking I have now is really
pretty sub-standard and kinda scary..  I think a bit more wheel dust and
more frequent pad replacement will be a worthwhile exchange for better
"panic stops" in the van.. I can change pads in about 15 minutes, what with
all the practice I have from my racing days....
