I think that would be a great spot. Two things you might run into; metric hole and standard threads, there's not a lot of room between the push rod tubes.

If the sensors are inexpensive you might think about installing them in a couple other places. The vent hole of the radiator comes to mind or the top of the cooling tower like you mentioned. Then select them with a rotary switch.
