Gentlevolks,

A couple plus one things:

1.) Language: This is a G-rated list. Please keep the profanity to yourself or if you're incapable of such, keep it off the list. I will tolerate most euphemisms, but George Carlin's "Seven Words" are verbotten. I will remove you if you repeatedly ignore this request. We have listmembers of all different persuasions and upbringings. It is simpler for all if you, as your mama probably told you, "Keep a civil tongue in yo' head."

2.) Trimming replies: "The vanagon mailing list has been around for a while and its citizens are fairly net.savvy. <snip> In particular, please avoid the following.... A reply to a previous vanagon list posting, quoting all six hundred lines, when all you wanted to do was respond to the last three."

As admin of a mailing list that has been around since the "dawn of the 'net", I have to make up some rules as I go along. When this list started, very few of us imagined that it would still be active nearly fifteen years later. Our 'formal' rules were developed in a time when the Internet was a much different place. Trimming replies is something that has always been in the RULES. Go read 'em. <http:// gerry.vanagon.com/info/etiquette.html> Then live by them.

Plus one: If you've got a beef with another listmember, the other thousand of us really don't care. Do not use the list for your "friendly banter." If you were in the local saloon, the bouncer would invite you to take it outside. I (and more than a few of us) would agree. You got a beef? Take it outside.

We will move on now.
