You fail to take into account that the quality and level of education in this country has fallen so much and so far in the last 15 years or so, that 20-something year old techs probably have a bit of trouble reading and comprehending a tech manual.

Oh, and of course, mighty VW dealers couldn't just go onlne and read the tech archives for our group here, of course not !! Damn.......pure Dysfunctionality. Jillions of resources and they won't use them.

They should apologize for being so dumb, and give him a few hundred bucks to fix it somewhere by competent people.

And here we are.........just ordinary online vanagon nuts, and already there is an offer of a free DOPS circuit board. And a VW dealer says they can't look up or get the part . must be a joke, right !!?

Confirm that's the real solution, and then let the dealer know how completely utterly incompetent they are. Really, it's not the 'Service Department." It's the "Get Your Money Working on a 1990 or later VW Department."

Most of their techs probably were in diapers when the last new Vanagon was sold in north america. Not that it means they shouldn't be able to grab a manual and troubleshoot...
