Along those same lines I've had a local foreign parts store, that specializes in VW mainly, tell me the local VW dealer orders parts from them. While I don't know if that's true or not, I always thought that dealers of any make use and install OEM type parts only. So sending out oil changes seems a bit weird.........and........

Low cost things like simple oil changes are used not as revenue generating jobs, but as an inspection opportunity to sell other work. They could do free oil changes , and find enough work that cars need, to easily came out far ahead. Dealers also have a bay or two dedicated to just fluid service type jobs, and less skilled and lower paid techs for just those jobs, called a 'lube tech.' Some do anyway.

I gave up on Castrol GTX 20W50 about 15 years ago, and always only use Chevron Delo 15W40......in most cases. I've even 'upgraded' an engine from Delo 15W40 to Castrol gtx 20W50 and didn't think it was as quite and smooth as with the Delo. Scott Turbovans

Interesting you say that I am suspicious that our local VW (also Audi and Subaru) dealer sends the oil change jobs across the street to K-Mart (which also does automobile "service"). I've never actually witnessed it but there are always a lot of late models of those marques parked out behind the K-mart building by the service bay doors.
