The last major work on the van was done 4 years ago, heads and head gaskets.? Shouldn't have touched the distributor but who knows.? Nothing else has been done that I recall and its run well for 80-90k miles. The rubber tire patch may work for a while if the pipe was dry but I couldn't drain the coolant or wait.? The clamp did the job and will stay under the moderate pressure of the hot coolant.? I'm going to pursue Dennis' theory.? There are a couple of VW repair places in the area I'll call first thing Monday AM and see if I can get some help.? Tom ?'91 Carat

Good on ya doing the patch. Sounds like a useful one to remember. I think patch kits for bike tires, and floatational devices, can be had pretty easily. Failing that, I wonder if good contact cement and a chunk of rad/heater hose or old tire would do? My first question would be, did anyone remove the distributor to service anything? I can just imagine a loose clamp, then the dizzy working its' way out. Cheers, Neil. |
