Roger German cars, at least the ones sold in Germany, are wired so that when parking on the verge of a dark road you can leave marker lights on by leaving the turn signal switch on (on the appropriate side) when turning the ignition off. eg, leave the left signal on and the parking lights on the left side only will remain on. Likewise if the signal switch is left in the right position. Excellent safety feature. That and the switched rear fog light built into the left tail light.
