Last year, I got a Panasonic CQ-C5303U for about $100 from buy.com, then added the iPod adapter cable (CA-DC300U) for about $50. Everything plugs in back, the iPod can stay in the glove box. Works great - the iPod goes on/off with the key and resumes playing where it left off (unless it's been off for over a day). You can select playlists from the deck, etc. That deck has a motorized tilting faceplate, which works out well. The low mounting in the Vanagon makes a non-tilting deck hard to read. Even comes with a remote, so I can change the volume, etc. from the back of the Westy.

The dash cutout is _almost_ DIN sized. To install it, I had to slightly file the corners of the dash opening. They're rounded and need to be squared up to allow a DIN sized deck to fit. That's probably why so few decks are listed as fitting. At the back, it's a tight fit with the cables (especially the antenna cable), but it works.
