I hear ya!
The CD player that c/w my Westy has those little volume buttons.
Thankfully it has a button that mutes the volume by about 3/4. You
know for those times when you think your engine may be making some
kind of death rattle, and you just *have* to hear it!
The CD player that came with the donor/parts Vanagon, has a volume
KNOB! Pretty happy about that. I'll be installing it. Of course
there's all those other little buttons.....
