Two suggestions : One, enter 'stud extracting tool' at google, and just keep going until you find one. Sometimes this takes all of 8 minutes or so.

Two, if you live where there are car repair shops, keep an eye out for tool trucks that sell to car shops - Snap-On, Mack, Matco, etc. They are likely to have serious unusual professional grade tools like this also. I sure hope your stud/s unscrews cleanly. I worry about the lower end busting off. And I would sure be applying heat, like from a torch, plus the hammer whacking treatment of course.

If you had to have a good 1.9 waterboxer block, I have one or two at least. Scott www.turbovans.com

RE: Correct tool for this job?

I've got a broken stud, left side top (2nd from rearmost/flywheel end of case).

Cannot remove w/ vise grips - I used to own a "stud extracting tool". It almost looks like a vanity pluming tool - goes around stud, you turn w/ rachet, and it tightens around stud as your turn to the left.....

Does anyone know what tool / where I might get this - I'll checked w/ NAPA today but I'm not optimistic........

thanks in advance for any suggestions.....

Have a good day!
