Subject: Fuel pump on for one second normal w/key to "ign." position?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi all.

So a good day was had on the conversion front. After I found that I'd left the battery connection off the starter (d-oh!), I connected that and got the engine to spin! But...... no familiar fuel pump sound like it used to do with the old engine. On the old setup, key turned to "ign. on" and "bzzzztt" continuously.

On the new setup, at first there was no FP sound, but then I realized I had the ground signal from ECM going to the wrong pin. I corrected this. Now when I turn the key to ign. (15) position, the FP sounds like it spins for a second then stops.

A really short quiet "bzzt".

From what I've read, it seems that the fuel pump on a more modern vehicle (unlike my *former* air cooled Westy --- ;^) may, or may not, spin for a brief time before actually cranking the engine. When cranking, the pump will pump and continue to do so if the engine runs.

Question:

is it "normal" for the FP to run for only 1 second with key in "ign." (15) position?

I'm so used to hearing that continuous FP sound on my old setup.

Apologies, as I know this in the archives, I'm just trying to nail down bugs before I fire it up. An informed list "yay" or "nay" would help!

Thanks,

Neil.
