Ok, that makes sense. In 86 and up vanagons )2 heat is supplied by the same relay that powers up the ECU I believe. Easy to check on a Bentley diagram. But having a separate relay for that function is fine.

I have the biggest firmest rule in the world about not letting ANYTHING go until the new engine conversion is perfectly working and all sorted out, like a few months worth. I use many of the stock waterboxcer parts on Subaru conversions, engine upgrades from 1.9 to 2.1 etc. Sometimes I get 6 to 8 parts reused in the new engine conversion.

Sure, you can stuff your relays in the black junction box.

I also........in Subaru conversions, I put the two relays under the back seat next to the ECU. That works quite nicely. Keeps the engine compartment clean looking, and puts the relays where no road junk or moisture can get to them. I wouldn't consider putting the ECU anywhere other than under the rear seat btw. Scott

3rd relay is for the HO2S (heated O2 sensor)

The Jetta uses a fancy schmansy O2 sensor with a heater element.

Thanks for the confirmation and tips.

Unfortunately I didn't keep the "high voltage" box from donor. Sold it with engine. Luckily I had the sense to keep the black junction box from WBX donor. It looks like it seals properly. Should suffice for relays.
